Brampton Reserves 1-3 Fenstanton
Fenstanton travelled to Brampton on Saturday to face their Reserve team that they beat 2-1 at Hall Green Lane a week ago.
Ryan Hunt filled in for the absent Adam Buckingham in goal, with Ben Fuller, Adam Berrill and Scott Morrison also returning to the squad. Ross Fairley was also absent with an injury.
Brampton went ahead in the 1st minute after a Fenstanton defender headed the ball into the back of his own net after a Brampton corner.
Less than 10 minutes later the scores were level with veteran Ben Fuller heading the ball home after a long throw-in from winger Salv Merola.
Despite a lacklustre 1st half, Fenstanton went in at half time with the lead, when on 40 minutes, midfielder Scott “The Relic” Morrison smashed in a shot off the underside of the bar after a superb delivery from Dion Lee. Even the referee commented on how it wasn’t a bad effort for an old man!
A few choice words from keeper Ryan Hunt at half time and the 2nd half was a different story. Fenstanton came onto the pitch hungry for the 3 points and were determined not to go home empty handed.
Ben Fuller, Salv Merola, Adam Berrill and Ben Hall all having chances to increase the lead, but just couldn’t convert their shots into goals. The break came on 70 minutes however, when a Brampton defender tripped up over the ball. Adam Berrill picked up the loose ball outside the box who chipped it to Merola, Merola knocked it to Ben Hall who slotted the ball in for his 22nd goal of the season and to claim all 3 points.
Final score Brampton Reserves 1-3 Fenstanton.
With Houghton and Wyton losing 3-1 at home to Isleham United, this win has given Fenstanton a 6 point lead at the top of Division 2B ahead of their Creake Charity Shield Quarter Final clash against Eaton Socon Reserves next weekend.
