Buckden Reserves 1-7 Fenstanton
Fenstanton returned to winning ways with a comprehensive 7-1 away win in the quarter finals of the Hunts Lower Junior Cup.
Management duo Adam Buckingham and Tom Tilbury made wholesale changes from the team that lost to Houghton & Wyton the previous week.
Adam Berrill, Tom Cody and Ben fuller, all returning to the starting line up, and there were also starts for David Anderson and Scott Wilkinson.
Fenstanton were dominating possession but just couldn’t breakthrough the Buckden defence, with Scott Wilkinson and Ben Hall working hard and putting in plenty of dangerous balls.
Fenstanton did take the lead when Dion Lee played Ben Hall in and the winger rounded the keeper and scored the game’s first goal.
Despite not creating anything of note in the game, Buckden did get an equaliser. A poor goal to concede, with Buckden’s goalkeeper sending a kick over the Fenstanton defence, which the picked striker latched on to and cooly slotted in.
1-1 at half time. Fenstanton weren’t playing badly, just didn’t get out of 2nd gear.
The second half, as it has been most of the season, was a procession. Ben Hall scored 10 minutes in to the second half with a cross/shot to put Fenstanton 2-1 ahead.
Hall claimed his hat trick, tapping in from close range, and this seemed to demoralise Buckden and the Floodgates opened.
Adam Berrill got in on the act with his 1st of the season, and Hall added his forth of the game and 10th of the season
There was still time for substitute Salv Merola to end his goal drought, with a late double.
Fenstanton go into the semi final, where they will face either AFC Barley Mow, AFC Stanground or Stanground Sports Reserves.
