Cottenham United Reserves 0-4 Fenstanton
Fenstanton returned to league action after last weekend’s big cup game, to face a Cottenham United team.
A few familiar faces returned to the starting 11, with Dale Edwards, Dave Moore and Salv Merola all back in, and there was a second start of the season, for young Scott Wilkinson, in at right back.
Fenstanton started brightly, with Merola and Hall creating half chances, but Cottenham changed formation early on, and nullified the attacking threat.
Not much to shout about in the first half for Fenny, with not much movement or energy on show, Cottenham were looking more comfortable and most likely to break the dead lock.
In fact Cottenham came as close as they could without scoring, hitting the bar and the post, just before half time.
The 2nd half, as it normally always is, was all Fenstanton, dominating possession rearing chances and looking threatening.
Cottenham were very well organised still in the second half, and it took a moment of class from Ben Hall to break the deadlock.
After good play by Scott Wilkinson, the ball found its way to Hall on the half way line, who knocked it around one defender, rode a robust tackle from the big centre half before smashing in the opening goal.
Hall had his second of the game a minute later, pouncing on a lose ball, and smashing in, to give Fenny a 2-0 lead.
There were more goals to come, with substitute Ross Fairley hitting in his 3rd of the season, and Dion Lee made it 4-0 in the last few minutes with a powerful effort from edge of the box.
Not a convincing win, but a vital 3 points went home with Fenny.
