Fenstanton 4-2 Saffron Crocus
Fenstanton overcame Saffron Crocus is one of the tougher games they have had this season. But the victory set up a tie with Eaton Socon Reserves in the quarter finals of the Cambs Creake Charity Shield.
Fenny went behind within minutes when a Crocus player lashed in a corner, that Fenstanton failed to clear.
Fenstanton were back on level terms soon after midfielder Adam Berrill was tripped in the box, with top scorer Ben Hall stepping up to convert the penalty.
With chances coming at either end, and woodwork getting hit by both teams, it was Fenstanton that went ahead just before half time with Ben Hall’s initial free kick saved by the Crocus keeper, journeyman Salv Merola unselfishly squared for veteran striker Ben Fuller to tap in. 2-1 up at half time.
Crocus came out all guns blazing in the second half and deservedly equalised when their striker smashed the ball in after a kind deflection, put the ball in his path.
With the game becoming quite flat, Adam Buckingham and Tom Tilbury, tweaked things by swapping Fairley and Fuller over, with Ross Fairley starting to boss the midfield with his power and presence.
The next tactical change paid off all most instantly, with Merola and Hall swapping wings. And within minutes of the swap, Hall crossed for Merola who eventually scored a well deserved goal for himself.
Adam Berrill called off a very good game and confirmed Fenstanton’s place in the next round of the cup, curling in to make the score 4-2.
Fenny make the trip to Wisbech St. Mary A on the 2nd of January for their fixture of 2016.
